Although I've always appreciated different styles of leather jackets, I pretty much thought a "leather jacket is just a leather jacket". But after two days of work at a leather retailer (and many more to come), my love for leather jackets has already reached a whole new level. I've realized that a leather jacket isn't just a leather jacket, every one is different. Most of you are probably like "well duh, that's just like discovering like not every pair of jeans are the same". Okay well I'd have to agree to an extent, it is quite similar. But two different pairs of dark wash jeans with gold stitching are more or less the same thing. I used to compare having more than one leather jacket it to buying a couple different pairs of black leather riding boots, but not any more.
Every style of leather jacket has it's own personality and purpose - for the most part. Funny that I've been thinking about this all day, because I open my inbox this evening to find today's edition of Rachel Zoe's newsletter about the leather jackets. I'd have to say that LBJs (little black jackets) are becoming as important, if not MORE then the LBDs to the average girls wardrobe. (Which reminds me, I shamefully do not own a LBD.)
This jacket (right) was brought to my attention thanks to Rachel Zoe. It's a cute alternative to the average jacket - a drape-neck by Helmut Lang. I'm totally digging the blend of leather and felted cotton fabric, and that asymmetrical zipper totally adds that finishing touch. I also have to point out, I love that they designed the jacket so it can be the cherry on top, yet it's simple enough to let you play it up with jewelery and other accessories. I've seen the mix of leather and fabrics/suede often this season and I have to say its a fun way to play up the traditional leather jacket
Availability: Helmut Lang Drape Neck Leather Jacket($780). For retailer information, visit Helmutlang.com.
So whether you're into the classic cut, the aviator bomber or the badass biker jacket (or all of the above) just remember that you can never have to many leather jackets. Try to switch it up, which will allow you to have a LBJ for every occasion... and outfit!
Oh PS., Happy Hump day everyone! Keep looking fabulous!
Gabriella xoxo
