LG Fashion Week - PART ONE (Jules Powers)

We came, we saw, we conquered! Last week, throngs of fashion die-hards flocked to LG's fashion week held in Toronto. The Patent team was in full effect as we previewed over 20 shows and got some face time with the designers. Instead of doing the traditional review, we opted to let the clothes and the designers speak for themselves. So we came up with a set of questions ( pretty much the same for all) and gave them 5 minutes to speak their hearts and minds.

Jules Powers

Patent: Three  words that would define your collection.

Powers: Cool, wearable and colourful.

Patent: What inspired this collection?

Powers: Just on the street, from everybody walking around in the heatwave with their shorts and little skirts. We [also] looked at magazines to get really inspired by fabrics.

Patent: I definitely saw a lot of flirty skirts, the headbands of course. Where you going in a certain direction with that?

Powers: My whole aesthetic is very feminine. But we always want to give it a little bit of an edge. And it's always a little bit sexy, a little bit edgy and then a little bit street.

Patent: Well there's definitely something for everyone.

Powers:Yeah! Well that's the idea. I mean I have customers that are 50 years old and then customers that are 15.

Patent: So with this collection and your fashion in general, what message are you trying to impart to your wearers?

Powers: I'm not really sending a message I'm just giving women an option to buy clothes that are Canadian-made,  well-made, edgy, street and still extremely wearable. They're right on trend and giving women an option that's not H&M and not very expensive designer name that's affordable. A lot of the pieces are under $200 so we like it to be very sensible.

Patent: One thing I thought when looking at the collection was that it was very functional.

Powers: Well I'm a mom with two small toddlers and I wear all these clothes. Everyday is a crazy day so they have to work.

Patent: If there was one thing you could patent what would it be?

Powers: My sweatpants.
