LAID

I knew Shannon for two years, I think. Back in the day I wanted to be a high fashion model and I wanted Shannon to take my pictures (she is a wicked photographer by the way) to develop my portfolio. I didn't know she was writer until a year again, back then I would have never thought that she would be coming out with a book. I'm very proud of her, I like to see people progress and she most definitely did.

What Sex is Really Like for Today’s Youth
In Laid, young people write candidly about their experiences, their beliefs, and the lessons they’ve learned

Modern culture is laden with information and ways to access it. Young people today have everything they need at their fingertips—literally. So when it comes to sex, it’s true that there are resources where young people can turn, but it’s rare that young people have a forum to talk about their questions or concerns, or the experiences they’ve already had.

In this hard-hitting anthology, journalist Shannon T. Boodram has compiled more than 40 personal firsthand accounts of young people’s sexual experiences in today’s world. Laid: Young People’s Experiences with Sex in an Easy-Access Culture (Seal Press/ September 2009/ $15.95) covers a range of important topics, from teens’ first times to STIs, abstinence to unplanned pregnancies.

Boodram, an up-and-coming voice for her generation, engages teens and young adults in honest dialogue and offers a range of perspectives on young adult sexuality in our easy-access culture. Responsible and thought-provoking, Laid explores how young people see and experience sex, how and why it shapes their beliefs, and what they know and have learned about themselves and their sexuality. With contributions from both female and male voices, in-depth analyses, facts, and Q&As at the end of each chapter, this collection is a great resource for young people, parents, and teachers alike. Truthfully and powerfully, Laid offers a candid portrait of what sex is really like—the good and the bad—for young people.
