Who is...

Alexander McQueen

He has been committed to his fashion career since the age of sixteen, and he did an apprenticeship at the Saville Row tailors "Anderson and Shepherd". This is what has made him so skilled in clothing construction.

He is also known for his over-the-top designs and intricate patterns (that match his fiery personality perfectly).

Here is his look that he made his signature in 2009. The lips are made of wax and he used them consistently throughout the year.

He won "British Designer of the Year Award" in 1996, 1997 and 2001.

Who is...

Jessica Biffi

Jessica Biffi is an up-and-coming designer who studied Fashion Design at our very own Ryerson University. Her collection was the main feature in Holt Renfrew's coveted window display spot!

I know some of you are asking "Where have I seen her before...?".

She came 2nd on the second season of Project Runway Canada, winning three challenges and showing at Toronto Alternative Fashion Week and LG Fashion Week in 2009.

She is currently partnered with Winners, Addition-Elle, Penningtons and Gymboree.

It's great to see some local talent succeed in the industry!

Who is...

Marc Jacobs?

I am beginning my "Designer Fridays" segment with a known name. Mostly because I want my readers to understand the way I will be introducing the designers, and what they can expect to learn about them. Also, it never hurt anybody to know more about an old favourite!

Born in NYC. At fifteen Marc Jacobs worked as a stockboy at an avant-garde boutique called Charivari. He attended Parsons The New School For Design. This school is prestigious for birthing some of the most talented artists and designers that the world has seen. He designed a line of hand-knit sweaters while studying at Parsons, which actually sold quite well.

He was appointed Creative Director of Louis Vuitton in 1997, a position which he holds to this day.

He's known for his chic and modern designs and his tendency to design out-of-the-box collections.

Here is some of his early work that you can compare with his Spring 2010 collection.

Fantastic work, Mister Jacobs!
