|FAT| - Toronto Alternative Arts and Fashion Week



This is event is a MUST, talented designers get the opportunity to showcase their designs. This is also a perfect place to network and meet industry professionals.


| FAT | Toronto Alternative Arts & Fashion Week is a multi-arts festival with a mandate of showcasing artistic disciplines rooted in fashion and their exploration of clothing and the body in today's time. The festival emphasizes this mandate through the showcase of fashion design, photography, installation, video, performance, music and dance, in an effort to push forward and redefine our perception of the fashion phenomenon.

| FAT | is Toronto’s first-ever arts & fashion event which defines our style consciousness, bringing the public and the industry the mutually exclusive possibilities of fashion-forwards fused with music and art. This multifaceted annual event showcases 200 of the most innovative fashion designers, visual artists, musicians, performers and dancers across the country and abroad. The Distillery District hosts various | FAT | runway shows, live performances and installations featuring talented upstarts and established artists redefining style and influence.

The Toronto Alternative Arts & Fashion Week intends to introduce a broader audience to these related creative fields, building public interest while simultaneously creating a forum where artists can learn from and collaborated with each other.

|FAT| 2009 will be taking place April 21 - 24 at the Distillery District - Fermenting Cellar (55 Mill Street East Building 6 & 7)

DAY 1 – HOME – APRIL 21 / 09
Exploring the roots and history of the places we come from. The theme reflects on issues around diversity, interconnection, and convergence between art, clothing and various domestic influences.

DAY 2 – PLANET – APRIL 22 / 09
How do we create a balance between progress and nature? A look at the current state of the globe and work that deals with fashion and art in relationship to the environment and sustainability.

DAY 3 – GUTTER – APRIL 23 /09
The nature of survival and the ways clothing negotiates limitations. The social, political, cultural and economical aspects of a place on the edge, raw, uncomfortable, unsettling, shifting and extreme.

DAY 4 – BEYOND – APRIL 24 /09
Beyond indicates where we are headed and how we can reinvent ourselves through cloth. It explores the notion of dreams, imagination, the extremes of invention and the possibilities for the future.
