Where to Go for Vintage!

This works for everyone, especially if you work long days and can't get out to the stores as much as you'd like. Some people use this site for other things, but I found some amazing vintage pieces of artwork and little knick-knacks that would make anyone's space THAT much cuter.

If you are interested, go to www.etsy.com and find some relics like these:

Of course, if you do have time to go vintage hunting, Kensington Market is probably your best bet (but I'll update you in the future if I hear differently!)

Somebody You Will Love: Simon Doonan

Simon Doonan

This man is the fabulous creative director for Barney's in New York. He worked his way up from a lowly window dresser to one of the leading positions in one of the leading luxury department stores in the world.

Here is more about his life:

Visual Merchandising, the program I was taking at Sheridan College is the diploma you need nowadays to start a career like this. If anyone is interested in window display as a career, I definitely recommend that program!

Also, I recommend reading Simon Doonan's autobiography Confessions of a Window Dresser. I got it off of www.amazon.com for $20.00 used!

Cute Way to Revamp the Clutch!

If you are like me, when you go out to a club or a bar you want to bring as little as possible and look as stylish as possible. This means no bulky purses or gym bags.

Abiding by this rule can be a bit limiting though, with the standard clutch. That is why I'm here to expose the wooden handled clutch. It gives a kind of old-school vintage feel to an otherwise typical accessory.

Try it with a cute floral dress, or incorporate it into your own style!

Church Dress’s fashion event “A Parade of Colours”

On May 22, 2010, Patent Magazine’s Irene Boateng received the opportunity to attend Church Dress’s fashion event “A Parade of Colours” at The Bata Shoe Museum (327 Bloor Street West).

Here’s her review

Church Dress previewed their spring/summer 2010 pieces for the modern church fashionista and fashinisto. The clothing definitely lives up to the name of the show as there were bright colours, classic florals, masculine hues, and feminine ruffles along trendy accessories to pair.

Spring/Summer 2010 Collection

The models paced to melodic music played by a live band and performers. The hosts were enjoyable and humorous which lightened the mood. The night also included giveaways, a clothing sale, and paid a special tribute to Haiti.

I caught up with head owners and designers of Church Dress Aquila Guerra and Elise Beckles after the show to congratulate them. They were excited and grateful at the success of their show and spoke to me about their collection. “We wanted to create a fashion line for people inside and outside of church. We wanted a stylish, modest, and not mainstream line,” says Beckles. “We want to stand out for the right reasons.”

Irene with Aquila, CEO of Church Dress

After launching in 2008, this was Church Dress’ second major show, and I must say I was impressed by the organization of the night, the venue and its uniqueness. I took a tour around the museum along with my photographer, Quincy. The art in the showcases were remarkably creative and there were shoes of all sorts everywhere. Those in attendance were all dressed clean and chic and represented a mature clientele. Among the crowd were Tika Simone (MTV Canada), Jyoti and Kiran Matharoo, Yanique Williams (founder of theCOR), and others.

The night was eventful and I would like to thank and congratulate Aquila and Elise on their second year of business and for putting on quite a show. Also, I would like to thank Quincy for his photography skills. Church Dress presents A Parade of Colours is Patent approved!

This is what I call having style

Rihanna - Rockstar 101

I'm not sure if I like it. I think it time for her to move on from this "badass" image, it's getting boring now

What do you think?
